About Recognition
RECOGNITION bottomline: a 200% Return on
Investment
People will repeat behaviors when they are recognized and
rewarded for them. If we recognize people who provide stellar
customer service, we'll get more people trying to please
customers. If we recognize great team efforts, we'll get
more great team efforts. Recognition efforts can dramatically
help implementations if they recognize specific behaviors
that support the success of the initiatives. source:
White
paper- The Power of Realization
A WorldatWork study found that "85%
- 95% of all incentive programs reach or exceed their goals,
and that the return on investment (ROI) on
non-sales employee programs (200 percent) is actually greater
than the ROI on sales incentives (134 percent)".
Isn't it obvious, then, that employee recognition programs
are effective and make solid business sense? source:
Keegan, Workspan, 03/02, 30-33
With
study after study proving the effectiveness of
employee recognition programs - when clearly communicated
and employed consistently - as motivators for increased
productivity, improved safety and attendance records, and
employee retention, it seems clear that employee
recognition programs should be part of every business plan. It's actually pretty hard to argue with a behavior
modification program that Human Resource experts generally
agree increases employee productivity by 15%-25% -
but look at this ...
Even though
- 92% of organizations surveyed confirm they have more
employee recognition than 12 months ago; and that
- 48% of those companies asked (both with and without current
employee recognition programs), confirm they are considering
adding new programs in the next 12 months; and that
- over three-quarters (76%) of 233 survey respondents say
they plan to do even more employee recognition in 2006,
the facts are:
well over one-half (67%) of 341 employees asked
say they are rarely or infrequently recognized at their place
of employment; and
more than 50% say that they are not clear on
what exactly what behavior is rewarded.
Even though
nearly every one (96%) of the 328 people surveyed
in June 2005 agree that employee recognition boosts employee
morale ; and that
slightly more of those asked (98%) confirm
that company loyalty goes up with recognition ; and that
94% of 354 survey respondents agree that employee
recognition reduces employee turnover,
the fact is:
over half (54%) the employees say their direct
supervisor or manager does not do a good job in recognizing
employee accomplishments - even though 59% agreed that feeling
their work is valued and appreciated is of utmost importance
to them and 67% desired both private and public recognition. sources:
